Terracotta Warriors!

During week 3 Mrs Munro came and worked with us. We learnt lots of interesting things about the Terracotta Army. Our task was to convince Mrs Munro that it was worth while visiting the Terracotta Army and then plan her a trip from Auckland to Xian, China.

Fish

On the last day of Term 2 my dad (John) came into Room 21 and set up a filter so we could have some fish. He also put in some weed and even a little sign which he put in the fish tank that red NO FISHING! He said we had to keep the filter going over the holidays and then on the first day of Term 3 he would bring some fish into school so we could have them for are class room. So on the first day of term 3 he brought in some fish. In the morning while I was getting dressed ready for school my dad got them ready. He put them in a big bucket with water in it (of course) and got some fish food as well. When we got to school we took the fish and all of the other stuff out of the car and took it down to the class room. My dad tipped the bucket over the tank so the fish fell in. Then the bell rang and people started to come into the class room. Everyone was looking at the fish and we soon came up with some names: Bubbles, Fred, Charlie, Bob, Nemo and George.
Every week there is a new person from Room 21 that feeds them.

Rugby Practice

On the 20th of july Thomas Cole and Adam came to Point View school to teach Room 21 how to play rugby.
Firstly Thomas showed us the correct way to pass a rugby ball then we played a game when we were in four groups of six. The aim of the game was to do as many passes around the rectangle as many times as you can without dropping the ball. While 3 groups were doing that, the other group was running around the groups doing the passing then they would jump over some pads and then ran into Adam (who was holding one of the pads). When all the team members had done that they would yell out stop and the groups doing passing would stop. The high score was by team 3 with 137 passes!

Then after that game, two teams joined together to make one team and the other two teams did the same. The game was rugby and netball combined so you were not aloud to move when you had the ball, you also had to do rugby passes not netball passes. The aim of the game was to get the ball to the person in the square when you got the ball to the person in the square it was a point unless the ball hit the ground before they got the ball. The wining team won 3-0 but over all we had a great time learning rugby skills with Adam and Thomas.

TeChNoLoGy

TeChNoLoGy

On Thursday the 24th room 21 went to technology with Mr Rankin, but first of all we had bible. Once the bible session was over we lined up on the deck and Mr Wright lead us to the Technology room and left us in the hands of Mr Rankin.
Once everybody had entered the room and had got a chair, Mr Rankin asked everybody if they knew the parts of a boat.
Everybody replied "Yes." Really? "What is the bottom of the boat called?" Asked Mr Rankin and in reply, only one or two hands went up into the air. PATHETIC!
"How about the front and back of the boat?" He asked again. This time, four or five hands went up and Mr Rankin picked one person.
After a few more questions, Mr Rankin told everybody to gather around the Uber-stix table and he showed us the Uber-stix website: http://www.uberstix.com/
Then we were told what we were making that day: Boats, and not just one type of boat either,There was the Steam boat, the Freestyle boat and the propellor boat.
The Freestyle boat was made of Uber-stix, Bottles, Tape, Foam, Ice-block sticks and anything you would use, while the Propellor boat were made out of lego and an electric propellor, but like all things that seem easy there is a catch... lego boats would have to carry a hammer, the steam boat was much more complex, you would make your boat out of bulsar wood, tape and and lots more, a candle would power the boat.
Finally we were allowed to choose our desired type of boat. Five people went tot he Steam boats and another five went to the Propellor but the most popular was the Freestyle boats.
The Uber-stix people and Propellor people were allowed to start at once but the Steam boat people had to wait for Mr Rankin to explain what to do.
Out side was the Testing Lane, which was have full of water and you could put your boat in and if it capsized or sank you would know what to improve.
About half way Mr Rankin put the fan outside, This blew the Uber-stix boats across the lane.
Room 21 had a great time making boats at technology!

Week #1

Room 21’s class blog

Room 21 is all about having fun so we decided to create a blog.

Our topic this term is focusing on 'Discovering Our Past'.

Here are some of the photos of work we have done!

We started off doing inquirylearning with Mrs Munro. Some of the activities we did were when we were in groups and had a different picture at each table and a vivid. Then we would go around pin-pointing the differences from the picture then and now. When we went with mrs munro started moving onto class topic mrs munro started moving onto class topic and typing up on the computer a number line of famous people and how they have changed the history of New Zealand in the time order.

Here is an example…
